Ambulance report
The emergency transport system has played a vital role in reducing maternal mortalities in Kaldar. Last year, the ambulance carried out (1180 with return journey + some false labor) and transported (540) to clinic and (79) complicated cases to hospital in Mazar.
When we launched the emergency ambulance last year, many people did not realize the importance of transporting pregnant women to health Centre and were reluctant to use the ambulance. However, after noticing reduction in women and child mortality, villagers increasingly ask for transportation service which has been an important factor in reducing maternal and child mortality in Kaldar.
To ensure sustainably, we have to empower local communities so they can cover some parts of the costs for the ambulance and over time taper their contribution. However, since the livelihood components of the project has still not started, this will take sometimes and the project will have to continue providing ambulance services.
